LABYRINTHITIS, named after inner ear inflammation that can lead to vertigo/dizziness, is equal parts Disco and Tom Waits. Not because it's necessarily like either of those disparate inspirations, but because it straddles the ground between them evenly enough that we don't how the hell else to put it. In a catalogue of weird albums, LABYRINTHITIS might be the weirdest — the songwriting is among his most inscrutable; the production is Bejar's most layered; the allusions and references are, to be unfortunately punny, labyrinthine. And yet, the most peculiar part of this most odd record is that it's somehow still danceable? It's wonderfully listenable, but what the hell is it?
