Light In The Attic
2xLP (Pool Haze Vinyl)
Hovering somewhere between the desert-soaked psychedelia of Mazzy Star and the bedroom-recording intimacy of Elliott Smith lies Acetone. Largely unsung compared to other hazily slow 90s indie acts like Low and Smog and tragically cut short by the 2001 suicide of vocalist and bass player Richie Lee, Acetone are given their due on this 2017 reissue from Light in the Attic. This career-spanning collection showcases their unmatched ability to curate a sunny-yet-melancholic vibe that’s singularity their own. It’s Sunday morning music, but for if you didn’t sleep well the night before. While there are definitely obvious reference points for this band, there’s still nothing that sounds quite like them. That mix of familiarity and freshness is what makes them such an essential band.
