If you haven’t heard, there’s a documentary on streaming right now that details the making of this album and it seemed like a stressful time for all involved. Between George feeling his flourishing skills as a songwriter were under appreciated by his bandmates, John struggling to find inspiration amidst a worsening drug habit, Paul taking on the role of the group project partner that doesn’t trust anyone else to do any of the work and Ringo, well, Ringo is honestly just hanging out, he’s doing fine. In spite of all of this, they made another incredible album. In what proved to be their final studio release, The Beatles were in loose but spectacular form with shaggy, unpolished cuts like “I’ve Got a Feeling” fitting alongside enduring classics like “Get Back” and the title track. This 50th anniversary edition comes with a new mix courtesy of Giles Martin that leaves every bit of the spontaneous charm of the original intact.
