ATO
1xLP (REG and Ltd Cream) and 2xLP (DLX)
There's something in Eric Burton's syrupy voice that recalls Al Green, or Bill Withers at his sentimental best. But if that makes Black Pumas sound dated, it shouldn't — while the duo is well versed in the their spiritual roots, the light psychedelia and clean production belie the tight album's sentimentality. ATO Records has been killing these past few years, and while Black Pumas is one of their more recent releases, it's entirely indicative of the label's success: raw, soulful, nostalgic and warm.
