Oklahoma metalheads Chat Pile take you on a dark and absurd journey through the deindustrialized American Midwest on God’s Country with songs that touch on poverty, violence and a photo of McDonald’s mascot Grimace smoking weed. The gutter deep bass and electronic drums that sound like they were dragged through a polluted river are accented by frontman Raygun Busch’s banshee yelps that paint a John Carpenter-esque portrait of the land they are documenting. God’s Country is funny and unsettling in equal degrees and perfect listening material for the next time you find yourself hanging out in an abandoned factory.
