Ella And Louis is the platonic ideal of a vocal jazz album. The spotlight is shared between three primary parties: Ella, who's delivery maybe never sounded quite as well rounded and smooth; Louis, who doubles vocals and trumpet, the former of which makes for a fittingly rugged counterpart to Ella, the latter of which is perfect for all intents and purposes; the Oscar Peterson Quartet, whose reserved compositions make for a fitting backdrop to the duo's casual crooning. If you don't like vocal jazz, give Ella and Louis a try. If you do, there's a good chance it's because of Ella and Louis. If it's not already, it should be the soundtrack to your Sunday mornings.
