Fleet Foxes first live album was handled in exactly the manner you would expect — recorded in a church, (digitally) released on the winter equinox, oozing melancholy. A Very Lonely Solstice was recorded in the St. Ann & The Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn with the help of the Resistance Revival Chorus, a choir consisting of women and non-binary members. The songs performed is a medley of the groups own work, as well as choice cuts from the greater folk lexicon. For the most part, however, it's just Robin Pecknold with his guitar, crooning in the great empty space of the church. For such a sparse record, it is remarkably emotionally charged.
