"Bring the tropics to you this winter with Marcos Valle’s self-titled classic. A fusion of samba, funk, and boogie, this album is as confident as its cover, dripping with a luxuriance only found in the 80s.” - Michael (YYC)

1xLP (half speed mastered)

One look at that cornucopia of cocktails, at the white shell necklace, the fruit bowl and that crown of lustrous golden locks tells you all you need to know: Marcos Valle is a bad, bad man. His 1983 self-titled comes off a return to Brazil after a brief stint in Los Angeles, wherein he dabbled extensively in Soul and R&B, which would permeate the more traditional samba/bossa nova sensibilities on which his legend was built. A lot of that fusion is due to the influence of Leon Ware, an architect of the American Soul sound (known for his collaborations with Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye and Minnie Riperton amongst others), who's fingers are all over this joint. The opener "Estrelar" — co-written by Ware — couldn't be more 80's if Richard Simmons conducted a workout class to it. From there the rest of the albums explores the fertile meeting ground between Brazil and America's respective ideas of funk and groove, ranging from Smokey Robinson-esque quiet storm to full blown disco.
