Birthday Cake
1xLP
Everywhere Mariel Buckley used to be is where she can be found on her third album, a (re)collection of road stories, introspections, acceptances and the odd trace of potty-humour. It's a graduation from the gritty country of her previous two albums, and an expansion on the raw songwriting of Driving In The Dark, her 2018 album that signalled her ascension as one of Canada's premier songwriters. You've probably heard her praises sung on CKUA, or seen her at *check's notes* literally every folk festival over the past few years, or caught her behind the counter at Blackbyrd Myoozik (a few years ago). The album's warm atmosphere is credited to Jeff Kynoch, local recording engineer and fellow Blackbyrd alum. Together they crafted one of the best written and sounding albums to ever come out of Calgary. We're very proud, and running out of copies, Mariel, so if you're reading this please drop off more.
