Light In The Attic
1xLP
Before beginning work on the movie that became House, director Nobuhiko Obayushi consulted his five year-old daughter for ideas for a horror movie. The result is one of the most off-the-wall and unique films ever made. Centring around a group of six women attempting to escape a possessed house that is threatening to devour them, House bridges the gap between horror and a Saturday morning cartoon with villains that include a watermelon that turns into a human head, possessed light fixtures and a cat that shoots lasers out of its mouth. Like the movie itself, this soundtrack begins in a cheery tone with happy-go-lucky bubblegum pop tunes at the beginning of the record that give way to some nightmarish sonic landscapes on the back half of the record. There is no movie quite like House and there’s maybe no better companion piece than this album.
