Originally only released as an add-on with the purchase of a plant at a Los Angeles-based plant store or a mattress from a Sears location, Mother Earth’s Plantasia seemed destined for obscurity as nothing but an oddity of early electronic music. Thanks to the internet, the album has instead enjoyed a massive surge in popularity in recent years driven by its quirky electronics and appeal to plant parents, drawn to song titles like “Ode to an African Violet” and “Symphony to a Spider Plant”. The 30 plantcentric minutes of the LP give an overview of Garson’s genius as a composer, like a warmer Kraftwerk or earthier Brian Eno and stands as proof that there can be brilliance hiding behind any corner in the music world.
