The last decade or so has been a good time for minimalist, ambient-adjacent classical composers. With artists like Lubomyr Melnyk, Ólafur Arnalds the late Johann Johannson and Nils Frahm all offering their own takes on twinkling, wintery compositions that serve as the perfect soundtrack to activities associated with this time of year. Be it studying for a final, cooking a Christmas dinner or reading a book during a snowstorm, Nils Frahm soundtracks the month of December as fittingly as anything in Michael Buble or Mariah Carey’s catalogue. This 80 minute compilation compiles 12 years worth of unreleased piano recordings from the composer to make for something that acts as a perfect sampling platter of his work.
