As individual artists, El-P and Killer Mike had incredibly successful, distinguished tenures among the elite of hip-hop's basement. The former could arguably be called the author, architect and ultimate executioner of underground rap's first wave. The latter was collecting Grammy's with Outkast, trading bars with Jay-Z and releasing slews of beloved mixtapes in one of the genre's most densely saturated meccas before he reached top billing. But together? As Run The Jewels? Together they are all of our goofy uncles. They deserve everything. And if they wanna walk around with a 36-inch chain, cracking off-coloured jokes about sticking up poodles, forming drum circles, taking ayahuasca and telling stripper stories, then it's the least we can do to give them our complete and absolute support.
