There's a heartwarming story behind the warm music that comprises The Resurrection of Rust. Before his he became the poster boy for pop-unorthodoxy, Costello gigged around the UK with his friend Allan Mayes in the short-lived outfit Rusty. Mayes sent Costello a letter on what would have been the 50th anniversary of Rusty's formation looking to jam, and Costello responded with an invitation to record the album they never quite got to. What came of it is a warm EP of a couple originals, a couple Nick Lowe covers, a Neil Young medley and an ultimately warm piece of comfort music oozing chemistry and the types of friendship that can only come from decades apart.
