Get On Down

1xLP (White Vinyl)

Hell Hath No Fury is a selective masterpiece. For those willing to overlook (or indulge) in the wanton violence, the shark-eyed nihilism, lucid hedonism and peddling of *illicit* substances, it's one of the most unambiguous rap releases ever. This is not where to one will find a handle to the sliding scale of morality. This is where you find airtight raps about cooking and moving narcotics, about obscene wealth, power and paranoia, echelons beyond a mortals understanding, and perhaps the cleanest production to ever grace a hip hop record. This final point is the trump card in any argument pertaining to Hell Hath No Fury's place among the pantheon of rap albums. Each track was produced by the Neptunes who were nearing the height of their commercial prowess — prowess attained largely due to the overwhelming reception to the albums beats. And that's no slight to the MC's, who bravely match the albums bounce with their suitably cool detachment. Pusha T and Malice rap as if they're running through lyrics like an olympic sprinter; all intent, eyes on the finish line, no wasted motion. It's a thing to behold. And yet, when that kick hits on "We Got It For Cheap," it's abundantly clear what the star of the shows is.
