It's a bit sad what nearly two decades of dancefloors have done for the general perspective of Ready to Die. What you hear at 11:30pm with a vodka soda in hand is not representative of Biggie's magnum opus, an album that credibly makes a case in the impossible Greatest Album Of All Time debate. Beyond the remixes is an warzone, an inner-city epic that traces The Notorious B.I.G. rise from reckless youth to ruthless warlord. Ready To Die is a reflection of a life not many are harrowing enough to live. So sure, within an entire existence there'll be moments in the club. But it's what in between and on the outside that leave an indelible mark.
