While the phrase “Scandinavian Post-Punk” can evoke images of some of the coldest, most down tempo guitar music you can hear this side of the Factory Records roster. Sweden’s Viagra Boys break the stereotype by making one of the most flat-out fun post-punk albums you could hope to hear this year. The pounding basslines and somewhere-between-howling-and-deadpan vocals make this sound more like the Prodigy hanging out with the Cramps than Joy Division or the Cure or any of the other usual reference points you’ll hear when a band is slapped with the post-punk label. Out of all of the many, many great post-punk albums to come out over the last few years Cave World is perhaps the only one we recommend you soundtrack a house party with.
