New Zealand singer-songwriter Aldous Harding writes folk music that’s quirky and often pretty funny. Imagine if Flight of the Conchords took over for Adrianne Lenker if she ever left Big Thief and you’re on the right track. She has an ability for throwing her voice matched only by that guy that did sound effects in the Police Academy movies. On top of this, her songwriting is beautiful and meticulous and rewards repeat listens. Her arrangements take on a gentle, swaying quality that recalls Faye Webster or Jens Lekman and has the inventiveness and brightness of the best folk music and none of the suffocating self-seriousness of the worst folk music.
