The Toronto-via-Nova Scotia indie-pop juggernaut have come back for their first LP in five years with Blue Rev. This time around finds the group moving in a noisier direction with a healthy wall of distortion underlying frontwoman Molly Rankin’s melodies. The newfound wall of noise does nothing to take away from the songcraft or accessibility of the album, with every song having more hooks than the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. It feels like there’s a new element introduced to grab you every 10 seconds on this record which makes for this to be one of the most dense and rewarding pop albums you’ll hear all year.
