Mixtapes can get a bad wrap when they’re pressed on vinyl. The form’s seen as more of a dumping ground for songs the artists have been working on to tide fans over until their next project, a collection of tracks rather than a cohesive statement that’s meant to be listened to all the way through in one sitting. FKA Twigs bucks this on Caprisongs. While still nominally a mixtape, her singular knack for cohesion comes through just as strongly here as it does on any of her other projects and is suited for sitting down and listening from front to back on a turntable just as well as anything you’ll hear on wax all year.
