Florence + the Machine’s new album takes its name from the medieval phenomenon of dancing fever, otherwise known as the ‘dancing plague’, that swept through Europe between the 14th and 17th centuries. The dancing plague would cause people, occasionally in groups of thousands, to begin dancing manically until they collapsed from exhaustion. This is fitting for a band whose work is littered with references, musical and otherwise, to this time period. THe typically anthemic rock of this album is sure to inspire dancing plagues of its own at festivals around the world this coming summer.
