By the age of 21 Lorde had already released two massively successful albums, topped charts around the world, won multiple Grammys, was called the future of music by none other than David Bowie and generally achieved the type of legacy-securing success that takes most artists decades to reach. She responded to this by retreating from the spotlight to her home country of New Zealand where she spent her time gardening, going to the beach and reflecting on the world around her. The result is Solar Power, a summer-y record inspired by the natural world that departs from the muted electronics of her past releases to instead be based around breezy acoustic guitars and choral-style vocals, including backing vocals from Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo.
