The Numero Group refers to Pastor T.L. Barrett as "a Civil Rights activist who marched alongside Jesse Jackson, preacher for Earth Wind & Fire, Stax recording artist, “Family Feud” contestant, Stephen Curry soundtracker, high school drop out, and Kanye samplee," which is a bit of a mouthful despite its accuracy. Barrett is one of those artist who's WhoSampled page deserves a good read, as his gospel has been sampled extensively, and his records have become increasingly sought after. It's easy to see why: Barrett (and his Youth For Christ Choir) make music that can conservatively be described as joyful, almost divinely so. Spinning this collection of five of Barrett's albums may be the closest many of us will ever have to a legitimate religious experience. Hallelujah.
